The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) invites applications for the position of Research Assistant who will work with Asst. Prof. Janice Lee’s research group.


The Research Assistant will join an interdisciplinary research team that investigates how companies manage forest-risk commodities in their supply chains. In particular, the selected Research Assistant will work with an international research team to develop the research project on how deforestation practices in companies can be mitigated. The Research Assistant will be responsible for (i) logistics preparation and planning for fieldwork in Singapore, (ii) assist in data processing, collection and management for the research team, and (iii) assist in data analysis, writing and developing research outputs for the research team.


Job Responsibilities
  • Compile sustainability reports from companies
  • Conduct qualitative data analysis including content analysis and thematic coding
  • Process qualitative data (e.g., transcription of interviews)
  • Administrative and logistic duties associated with grant management


Job Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in business sustainability, social sciences, environmental studies
  • Experience in social data collection and database management would be preferred
  • Experience conducting content analysis and qualitative analysis would be preferred
  • Experience working with geographic information systems and spatial analyses would be preferred
  • Experience with statistical analysis with R or any other programming language would be preferred


Competencies
  • Logical thinking and creative problem solving is essential
  • Ability to work independently to develop and execute research projects
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, collaborative, with interest to work with other researchers and scientists (team player) to produce high-quality and impactful research.
  • Interest in the field of sustainable supply chains and socioecological systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
