I returned to work after a 4-month maternity leave this year. Being an academic mum has definitely been quite a journey and I can't imagine myself doing this without the immense support I have from my family and helper. It was a pleasure to attend the 2023 cohort convocation ceremony. I had a chance to be the presenter for the ceremony and received very kind words from students who appreciated my efforts to pronounce their names correctly (I had to practice quite a bit!).
Congratulations to Dr. Anushka Rege and her family who attended the ceremony in-person! It was wonderful to meet her family and see how proud they are of her achievements :)
Maple had also successfully defended her thesis in April this year and Lubis submitted his PhD thesis early this year. Maple has moved on to a postdoc position in Wuhan, China, while Lubis is currently working with the Wildlife Conservation Society (Indonesia) in Bogor.
We have new hires, Vartika Goenka who joined last year, and Dr. Remondah Garas, who joined in May this year. Both are working on the life cycle assessment of the black soldier fly in Singapore. We had an opportunity to visit a facility in Johor Bahru and were truly impressed at the scale of production!
